French group Trace, operator of multilingual international urban channels Trace TV and Trace Tropical, will dedicate €15m to its new sport channel Trace Sports HD. Broadcast in six languages, this international network will focus on the sport celebrities from a personal point of view.

Targeting women and men between 15 and 45, Trace Sports HD will not transmit any sport events but cast an intimate eye on sports stars and their achievements. “70 to 80 % of the contents will be produced or coproduced,” explained Trace CEO Olivier Laouchez, at Cannes Mipcom.


Though working in France with content producer Sporever, the group also announced the set up of production outfits in New York, London and Monaco.


Based on a Trace TV-like pay model, the new channel will be broadcast all day in a linear and non linear way on worldwide platforms. Talks are currently ongoing with UK and US groups Comcast and BSkyB.


Trace Sports HD aims at breaking even within two years after its launch. To achieve this goal the group will raise its capital by €2m or €3m by the end of this year, but will also profit from distribution revenues and auto-financing as Trace TV is a yet profitable channel.


Channels Trace TV and Trace Tropical are currently distributed in 145 countries into 22 million households. Trace brand also spans into radio and digital media. The group projects a €9.5m turnover for 2009.
